How does the Hyper GT S600 bridge the gap between family practicality and sporty performance?

On May 17, GAC Hyper unveiled the new premium intelligent sport SUV—Hyper S600—and officially opened pre-orders. LeiTech learned from the launch event that the vehicle will be offered in four variants: BEV 660 Max, BEV 660 Max+, Extended-Range (EREV) 230 Max, and EREV 215 Dual-Motor AWD Ultra+. The official pre-order price ranges from RMB 209,900 to RMB 229,900, while the pre-order promotional pricing is RMB 188,900–RMB 208,900.

For a sport-oriented SUV positioned in the RMB 200,000 segment, the Hyper S600 conveys one clear core message: It’s not about excelling in just one spec—it delivers top-tier performance, intelligent driving, cabin experience, comfort, and safety—all at once.

In terms of product positioning, the Hyper S600 is not a conventional SUV focused solely on family comfort. Instead, “sportiness” takes center stage—particularly its industry-first dual-motor AWD system combined with dual-chamber air suspension in the RMB 200,000 segment, which endows the vehicle with a stronger dynamic handling identity.

For instance, when tackling mountain roads on weekends, the air suspension can switch to a stiffer single-chamber mode to suppress body roll; during daily commuting, it seamlessly shifts to a softer dual-chamber mode, complemented by the Intelligent Magic Carpet function—which proactively detects road conditions—to deliver a smoother, more refined ride over bumpy surfaces.

Powertrain-wise, the Hyper S600 offers both battery-electric and extended-range options. Yet all variants feature the same high-performance 12-in-1 silicon carbide (SiC) electric drive system—ensuring no compromises on critical components. The dual-motor EREV AWD variant delivers a combined output of 370 kW, accelerating from 0–100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds—even under low-state-of-charge (SOC) conditions, it still achieves a 0–100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds.

For an extended-range SUV, this capability is especially critical. Historically, many users have hesitated over EREV vehicles due to the “dragon when fully charged, worm when depleted” perception. The Hyper S600 dispels such concerns with its high-performance integrated powertrain system. In test videos released at the event, even under low-SOC conditions, the vehicle sustains a top speed of 165 km/h—more than sufficient for China’s expressways.

Beyond its outstanding powertrain, intelligence is another key highlight. The Hyper S600 comes standard across all trims with Qualcomm’s SA8650 intelligent driving chip, 27 high-precision perception units—including LiDAR—and the ADiGO GSD 3.0 intelligent driving system powered by GAC’s Xingling platform, fused with Momenta’s R6 reinforcement-learning large model.

Honestly, domestic automakers are truly intensifying competition these days—just two years ago, this level of specification would have been unattainable within the RMB 200,000 price bracket.

Inside the cabin, the Hyper S600 features the Qualcomm 8295P chip, a 17.3-inch 3K central touchscreen, and standard 27-inch W-HUD across all trims—supporting lane-level navigation and ADAS information display. It also supports seamless switching among multiple AI agents. While AI experiences can often feel superficial, the hardware foundation clearly shows that Hyper did not cut corners on smart-cabin capabilities.

Although Hyper devoted significant time at the launch to highlighting the S600’s sporty dynamics, comfort and safety remain fundamental for any SUV. The S600 offers 750 mm of rear legroom, 1,292 L of expandable second-row cargo space, a zero-gravity “Queen Seat” front passenger seat, rear seats with a 143-degree recline angle, a 22-speaker audio system, and five laminated acoustic double-glazed windows.

Moreover, Hyper has doubled down on safety—the vehicle employs extensive hot-formed steel throughout its structure and integrates the “Magazine Battery 2.0.” For a sport-focused SUV, these features signal a clear message to customers: it’s not merely a driver’s car—it’s engineered for long-term, whole-family usability.

According to EV Tech Insights, the Hyper S600 taps into an emerging trend in today’s SUV market: With SUVs now accounting for over 50% of total vehicle sales, more and more consumers refuse to choose between “sportiness” and “family practicality.”

In the past, RMB 200,000-segment SUVs typically emphasized either spaciousness and comfort or performance and handling—making it difficult to strike an optimal balance among price, equipment, and overall experience. However, as NEV technologies mature, high-performance e-drives, air suspension, advanced intelligent driving systems, and smart cabins are rapidly trickling down to mainstream models—effectively rewriting the entry threshold for sporty SUVs.

EV Tech Insights believes that future competition in this segment will clearly move beyond the cliché of “refrigerator, TV, and large sofa”—delivering enjoyment for passengers *and* drivers alike. This evolution holds particular appeal for male buyers.
